Our Journey Since 2003
Our roots go back to a flat above a Cafe in Slough, England, in 2003, where Alexander Paterson first coined the idea of bringing high street recruitment online. His first product was Check4Jobs.com, a job search aggregator that offered a portal for recruitment consultancies in the United Kingdom to advertise their jobs. After years of building up, Check4Jobs Alexander decided he needed a rebrand and, in May 2011, transitioned the product to AdView.Online.

In 2016 Paterson accepted a proposal from Shane McGourty to drop the AdView name and take the product overseas to build a brand not just for the few but for the many. Over the next three years, Paterson and McGourty worked together to create a reputation amongst their peers whilst also laying the groundwork to launch WhatJobs.com in the United States of America.
During the year 2017, Paterson and McGourty started to identify themselves to other leaders in their industry to secure talent that could help them deliver their vision. This was the year when AdView launched its global publisher program, which became the envy of the online recruitment industry.
In 2018 Shane introduced Alex to Adil Rehman, who was at that time, the Managing Director of Gigajob.com, a job board who were successfully trading in 110 countries and a significant player in the DACH region of Europe. After flying to Asia, Paterson sold his vision to Rehman and asked him to join the board of directors.
In 2019 Adil introduced Sudhakar Gunaseelan as “ the most talented software engineer he ever met”. Sudi (as he likes to be called) was then offered the role of COO and joined the team in April 2019.

In 2020 things started to change for What Digital. With a significant pandemic and restricted movements, the board agreed that they would push their plans forward with increased haste rather than sit and wait. Within months AdView was rebranded as WhatJobs. With the new strategy in place, Shane McGourty successfully launched in 31 countries, covering every continent and thus began the growth of WhatJobs as a global brand.
In the same year, What Digital purchased a news portal and a Spanish competitor covering the LATAM countries. On top of that, Adil Rehman and Sudhakar Gunaseelan opened a new Digital Centre of excellence in Asia and set about recruiting 50 new team members to begin the company mission.
Today, in the face of rapid change to the likes of which the world has never before seen, our mission is more relevant than it ever has been. Our products and services are now evolving faster whilst also making them more accessible to people from all walks of life, in every country across the world. It is fair to say that ‘The Sun Never Sets on What Digital’.
